The Tirtha Necklace

The Story Named for the sacred crossing points along India's holy rivers, the tirthas where pilgrims have gathered for thousands of years to offer prayers, trade stories, and carry home tokens of devotion, the Tirtha necklace is built from objects that were never meant merely to be beautiful. The architectural silver amulets that anchor each shoulder of the strand are pieces of genuine ritual heritage, their verdigris patina the colour of time and river water. The central pendant, a repoussé plaque bearing a deity in full seated majesty, completes a composition that feels less like jewellery and more like a portable shrine.

The Craft The two flanking amulets are cast in the form of temple spires, tiered, tapering, and crowned with dense clusters of hand-finished silver granules that have mellowed over decades into a warm, burnished gold. Each amulet sits on a bed of silver spheres, creating a sculptural heft that balances the strand on both sides with intention. The central pendant is worked in repoussé, its deity scene raised from the silver surface within a rectangular frame edged with stamped floral corners, a format drawn directly from votive tablets offered at shrines across Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The Materials The pendant and amulets are forged in oxidised silver, their patina entirely natural and unrepeatable. They are strung on a hand-selected strand of malachite rondelle beads, their deep, swirling green banding as individual as a fingerprint, lending the necklace both its visual richness and its considerable, satisfying weight.
